Maria, eigentlich M. Tạrkiainen, geborene Hạgrén, finnische Schriftstellerin, * Kuopio 9. 4. 1880, ✝ Helsinki 30. 9. 1943. Der Alltag des Volkes und das Milieu des Kleinbürgertums bilden den stofflichen Hintergrund von Jotunis Werken. G. de Maupassant, K. Hamsun und H. Ibsen sind literarische Vorbilder ihres Schaffens, das dem Spätnaturalismus und dem Impressionismus Zugang zur finnischen Bühne schuf.
